What is Plum Flower - Lilium Teapills (Bai He Gu Jin Wan):

Plum Flower - Lilium Teapills (Bai He Gu Jin Wan) is a classical Chinese Medicine formula (c. late 17th century) for use with both acute and chronic dry cough that was originally formulated to treat tuberculosis. In modern times, it is most often used for:

• dry, unproductive cough that often follows the "Lung fire" stage (which itself is characterized by profuse production of yellow or green sputum); and
• dry, unproductive cough (rooted in deficiency) following prolonged illness or in the weak and/or elderly.

  In addition to a dry, unproductive cough, other symptoms indicating the use of this formula may include dry sore throat, difficulty breathing, and low-grade tidal fever. Clinical note: This formula is only appropriate for dry cough and will aggravate Lung phlegm conditions. Additionally, Shu di and Sheng di are greasy, cloying herbs that can that can cause nausea, bloating, and loose stools in those with weak digestive systems.
